KA: Pinwheel Sweater?

Anyone interested in Elann's (free pattern) Pinwheel sweater: Either Adult or Children's size???? I think I'd like to make it.

I posted about color choice here on KH, it seems in looking through Ravelry that people just photograph the backs of them and forget to show us that we need to consider the front as well.

I've made one, so I can help if you need it. What do you want to know about the front?

Arielluria 06-27-2008 12:44 PM

Just how the colors look in front. Also, often we start projects and then don't like them because we don't consider how they will look on our body type and since I'm busty (working on losing the weight, but I'll still be big upstairs :teehee:) that's my biggest focus to make sure it will lay well on my body. There's nothing worse than spending ALL that time and money on something and then hate it!
:tap:

Then I read the other thread....

I made it all one color and used a lace rib stitch for the edge. It looked okay, (I'm largish on top too, as well as bulky elsewhere) but I didn't like how the shoulders/armholes hung on me, so the yarn was turned into the Flower Petal shawl. I love it, and since I not really a cardi person, I get a lot more use out of that than a sweater.

I love this pattern, I will have to make one for my two year old daughter. will have to see what yarn I can substitute so I can buy it here instead of waiting for a delivery from the US.

I made one of these for my dd but she has already outgrown it and
I'd like to make her another one (with plenty of growing room this
time haha). I'll join in with you if you decide to go ahead! :)

Is the yarn used a worsted/aran weight or dk. may have a look in the shops tomorrow for some suitable yarn.

If you are making this for a bigger child would your just make more rounds before you do the sleeves. I really like the look of the hood on the baby but it would probably not look that big on my two year old daughter, so I was thinking of doing a few more rounds maybe ten before doing the sleeves and then carrying on. What do you think, would it work.

That is what I'm planning to do for my 3 year old dd. I have this vague
feeling that I read somewhere (who knows where) that you can adjust
the size of the sweater by just knitting more rounds before adding the
sleeves. You can measure as you go and just work in pattern until
the width is right for across the back and shoulders and then put your
sleeves in. :)

I'm going to use a worsted weight yarn that is readily available to
me and just the pattern as a guideline rather than follow it to the
letter....isn't that the way patterns are supposed to be used?

Libbie - I think you are right especially since this is just a circle you just measure as you go. So really you can use any yarn weight you like and just do more and fewer rounds to get the size you want. I will be out shopping for this later today.
