Help with a yarn substitution, please.

I want to make the Windowpane Coat in the Fall Interweave Knits Magazine, but can't afford to buy 14 skeins of Louet Gems Chunky. Can anyone suggest a decent replacement that won't cost quite as much (preferably around $5/skein)?

Thanks so much!

You would need something about the same weight as LG Chunky, a bulky probably. There's Woolease chunky, about $5-6 per, less if it's on sale or you can get coupons. If that's not what you like, you can look at yarndex.com, put in LGC and then select the gauge that comes up for it to find similar yarns. The pattern is knit to a much tighter gauge than normal for chunky yarn, unless this is on the thin side, more of an aran.

Plymouth Encore Chunky is nice, too.
