Sock pattern for XL feet?!

Hello everyone! I am trying to knit a surprise pair of socks for my DH, and I am having a hard time finding a pattern or how to alter a pattern for his HUGE feet...I'm talkin' huge. He wears a size 13 shoe, and the balls of his feet are rather wide also. Does anyone have any suggestions?! I don't want anything fancy, because he's not a fancy guy. Just a simple pattern!!

There is a book by Ann Budd called the Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns. You can get it for less than $20 on Amazon, and it has some basic patterns for socks, sweaters, mittens, etc., in all possible gauges and sizes. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out how to make them work for you husband with the book and possibly minor adjustments. Length is always very easy to adjust for-- just keep knitting:) .

Or you can use a sock pattern generater; here:

Thanks so much! This is exactly what I needed! I've made socks for myself, but never had to stray from a pattern. It's kind of intimidating!! Hopefully this will be a new beginning!

Another book that's good is Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. She has tables to tell you the correct number of stitches in various parts of the sock based on the yarn gauge and the person's foot measurements. I'm a new sock knitter and it's a little intimidating right now but I can tell it will produce perfectly sized socks.
