Multi-color yarn split panel sweater-HELP

I'm knitting a zipper sweater front using multi-color yarn and I want the pattern to match on both sides. The only way I can figure out how to do this is to knit both left and right front panels at the same time off the same ball of yarn (so the pattern is continual). My problem is I'm not sure how to bind off in the middle so that I can sew a zipper. I don't want the whole thing to unravel. There has to be a special stitch to bind off, I'm just not sure how to handle this.

I could knit as one piece and then fabric fuse. Then cut and sewed the zipper into the fused knit.

Any one have any ideas?:wall:

It's called Steeking and you don't bind off, you knit a tube and cut. Here's a pattern, http://glampyreknits.tripod.com/glam...otos/id44.html which is knit that way and has a link to a tutorial, and there's tons of pages on how to do it here - http://www.google.com/search?q=how+t...ient=firefox-a
