favorite knitting books and magazines?
I am a newbie knitter. I was thinking about buying a knitting book or a couple knitting magazines. Which are your favorites and are they better for beginners or more advanced knitters?

Magazine: Interweave Knits
Reference Books: anything Nicky Epstein Pattern Leaflets/Booklets for Kids: anything SIRDAR Pattern Stitch Book: The Knitting Stitch Bible 'Finishing' Book: The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques Overall 'Variety' Book: Mason-Dixon Knitting Book 1 and Mason-Dixon Knitting, Book 2. |
Oh, Artlady. Good choices! I agree ALL the way.

Overall reference: Knitter's Handbook by Montse Stanley. For most of my knitting life (30+ years) the only book I had was Barbara Abbey's The Complete Book of Knitting. I still like it.

Magazines
I see most of these suggestions are for reference books. Add this site to the top! Easy to use, plenty of support and the price is unbelievable!!:woot:
As for magazines, Creative Knitting is okay and I really like Knit n Style. |
Well for me, I loved the book Itty Bitty Hats by Susan Anderson. I had only been knitting a few days when I got that book, and it was really great for a beginner. Lots of cute projects and very insightful!!

Amazon keeps suggesting this (non-reference) book to me which has knitting cartoons in it. I haven't bought it but it looks really cute:

I came across this book years ago, and I've made one or two of them. If I had the money to get more of the proper yarn for them, I'd make more!!!
