2 at a time socks

I just purchased this new book and its to make two socks at a time. i started the practice socks like the book said to do and i got as far as the heel flap and now im all comfused. i was starting step 18 and my sock doesnt look like the book . im not even sure i have a heel flap....lol . can anyone steer me in the right direction...By the way i ripped it all out so i have to start over. thank you Leann
