I made... string?
Between yesterday & today, I managed to spin & ply some of my alpacas.

The individual strands came out with a LOT of twist, and so did the 2 ply yarn. I spun on the smallest whorl, and plyed on the biggest.

What do I need to do so it doesn't end up with so much twist?

sometimes it may not be as overspun as you think.. have you given the yarn a soak yet?..does it still curl back on itself alot?

also i would say if you are using the smallest whorl you may need to treadle slower or draft the fiber faster

try using a bigger whorl to spin the singles.. see how that goes

good luck!

Like Foxyie said, start on the largest whorl. The smaller the whorl, the more twist you'll get.
Treadle slowly and make sure your yarn is getting wound onto the bobbin quickly enough so you'll have yarn instead of string. The longer the staple of the fiber, the less twist you need.

I experimented with the largest whorl, as well as adjusting the brake, and I still end up with too much twist. Also tried different treddleing speeds.

You should only be treadling so that the wheel barely turns. It's a common learning curve for beginning spinners. Practice treadling without fiber so that the wheel will 'falter' right before you push the treadle.

What wheel do you have again? Do you know the ratios??
