Hello, new to knitting and very stuck!

Hello,

Hope someone can help me. I've just discovered I'm pregnant and have had a very strong compulsion to start knitting so I bought a book (I'm in the UK) 'Easy Baby Knits' by Claire Montgomerie which says it's for beginners.... erm not really!!

I've started off with the basics and am making a scarf:aww: and I'm not doing too bad, started with 30 stitches and have only gained 5 (in nearly 60 rows) so looked in the book to see how to remedy this but I've just read something that makes no sense to me. She says "always remember to drop the final loop at the end of a stitch" what does that mean? :hair:

Can anyone help? I don't want to be beaten by some wool and two needles!!

Thank you

Kitty

Hi Kitty and welcome. Look at the top of this forum and the sticky 'Mysterious Extra Stitches'. The posts in it mention the various ways you can gain sts and how to avoid doing that. I think what you're asking about is to make sure you let the st drop off the left needle after you've knit into it. If you slip both the new and the old st to the right needle, you get an extra one.

Oh thank you, sorry was in such a state of frustration I didn't see the sticky!

Thanks again:thumbsup:

Kitty
