Help with shawl knitting

I am beginning my first shawl and have got stuck allready. It is a finnish pattern that has been translated and the person who shared this has admitted to forgetting to put in the increases.
So this is where my problem begins the first thing I have to do is co 3 sts then increse these to 5 sts, I know how to increase but the pattern reads K1, inc1, K1, inc1, K1
How can I do that with only 3sts.

Ok first knit the first stitch yo(that is your 1st increase) knit the next stitch yo (that is your second increase) knit the last stitch.
It would read like this k1, yo, k1, yo, k1 and that gives you the five stitches.

You have the 3 sts on the needle and in the pattern; you would make an inc between sts, something besides kfb. Or you can kfb, kfb, k1 if you wish.
