Please help me understand the stated number of pattern rows at a certain point in pattern
The pattern: Alice Starmore's Secret Garden girl's knit jacket, size 2-3, in her book The Children's Collection.

Here is a link to someone's version of it on the web:
I'm around the point that the knitter was in her September 26, 2005 entry.

So far I have knitted the first garter stitch rows and all rows of the 39 rows of Chart A of the skirt, plus the last wrong side row that goes with it. The wrong side rows are included in those 39 rows. It looks like the whole lacy 'V' edging at the bottom of the example photo (in the link).

In the pattern now, it says "78 Patt rows worked in total," and I say "Huh?" because I don't understand why it says that. The pattern doesn't look like it's repeated again. Why on earth would it say 78? I haven't found errata for it anywhere.

I looked through my copy and you're right, it says 78 rows worked. But the photos clearly match up with only going through the chart once, which is 39. I also looked on Ravelry and not one person made a comment about it. My guess is that you and I are looking at older editions with an error. You can ask Alice Starmore about it by e-mailing her at In the meantime, I would just carry on as you have been and not worry about the 78.

You can also look for corrections by searching on "errata The Children's Collection"

Thanks, but I got frustrated looking for errata. I'll just go on.

I searched far and wide under both "corrections" and "errata" and found nothing. In a way, it doesn't surprise me. The history of AS's publishing and yarns is quite the soap opera; apparently she is very difficult and a lot of her stuff is completely unavailable except through redistribution (eBay, private sales, etc.) these days. So any quirk just seems to be part of the bigger story with her.
