top down stocking cap pattern

I have had two requests for a stocking cap I made a couple of years ago and now I can't find the pattern I used.

I am looking for a knitted skull cap that looks like it has been crocheted -- with the holes in it? Sadly, I don't know how to crochet, but love the look of that pattern.

I made some are warmers out of Caron Simply Soft, which is acrylic. Is there any reason to block them? Does this yarn block well????
