I'm doing a sock, my guage is 7.5 st./in. pattern calls for 7 st per in. Would you go down a needle size or will that drop it more than .5 st. per in.?

I'm knitting socks (5th pair!) with a waffle patterned instep and cuff. I found a loose loop though which I stuck a stitch marker on so it doesn't keep pulling down. I don't think I can pull it up...
