I really enjoy both. For me, if I love the pattern then the construction doesn't matter. I really dislike the short row heel though so I generally swap in a different heel.

It sounds like a pattern for tube socks. The fit is less "customized" and supposedly the socks last longer because they are worn evenly on all sides due to there being no set heel.

As far as I can tell there's no elastic in it. It's 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon. You may be thinking of their Esprit which is supposed to be exactly like the Cascade Fixation.
