They're good for really big things. The blanket I have going is on shorter ones. I could use two shorter ones for these but I tend to knit with the wrong needle and that's not fun.

That sounds right. Are you doing magic loop or just knitting on circulars that your stitches fill up?

It can be easier to join without twisting the stitches if you knit a couple rows back and forth...
