Unfortunately there probably isn't much you can do about returning them. If they are only a little loose then one size down may be fine. I use a zero because I knit loose to begin with.

I think Aran and worsted are usually considered interchangeable.

No matter what you call a yarn the gauge on the pattern is what you should be trying to achieve. Because we all knit differently...

RS means Right Side. WS would mean Wrong Side....

RS means Right Side. WS would mean Wrong Side. You can place a removable marker or safety pin right on the fabric on the RS so it'll be easy to remember.

I've made many dishcloths in a garter stitch diagonal/bias and you can use any increase. I've used KFB or YO most often myself. Just be consistent.

You probably want to use a bulky or chunky yarn. The skeins will usually say what weight and have a number. The weight number you want is 5 or 6. As for needle size... Check the wrapper on the yarn...
