What's your pattern called? Maybe we can find it online or at least a picture.

My guess: 2/2 LCP is a left cross worked in purl (a 4 stitch cable) and 1/1 RCP is a right cross worked in purl.

I think as written it should work. 56/4 =14. K12, k2tog will decrease 4 sts evenly. Make sure you knit 12 before the k2tog.

At the end of the row you will have 7 sts on the needle, that's what 7 sts means. Anytime you encounter that at the end of the row it's just telling you how many stitches should be on the needle....
