Issue with Backward Loop cast-on and purling

I am making DH a winter hat and ran into a MAJOR snag when making the brim of the hat.

Prior to P2 rounds I had to cast on stitches using the Backward Loop method.

When P1 round, I got left over...

Unhappy How do I pick up a long lost loop....

I am currently knitting a shawl called the 'Flordia Wrap' for my sister and I have noticed 2 errors that I have made.

1 is completely forgivable so far... and the dropped loop is the most major...
