i always think the tie is such an interesting, portable project... but i don't wear them (i liken them to pantyhose for men, cutting off all oxygen and will to live), and my dad wouldn't wear a knit...

that rate of increase sounds right... it means for every 5 stitches you already have, you'll add 1 more. so 100 stitches divided by 5 is 20. 100+20=120, which is what they want you to start with...
