My understanding of this is that I am to bind off the first 6 stitches of the next row and then knit ALL the way across. Then I am to bind off the first 6 stitches of the next row and purl my way...

gauge off by the tinest bit

I achieved gauge that's the tiniest bit off on size 10 needles (I checked in three diff spots. On one, I'm spot on, on the other two I'm about 1/8 of an inch off). On size 9 needles I'm wayyy off....

I just checked my pattern and it calls for bernat denimstyle, which is a cotton-acrylic blend. Must I stick to acrylic-cotton blends or can I use wool or plain acrylic too?
