mastering tension

I'm pretty new to this whole knitting thing.. though I am finding myself fantasizing about it all the time!! Anyways... to the point..
can anyone recommend anything for me to reference that...

BACK TO THE ENGLISH WAY, THAT HELPED,...BUT I STILL HAD A
LONG PIECE OF YARN LEADING FROM THE LEFT NEEDLE...IT KEPT

casting on MC & then casting on CC

the pattern says cast on 30 MC and then 20 CC, then the next line says to work in garter stitch for 60 stiches...am I missing something? isn't 30 +20 =50???

also... do I slip knot CC and cast on...

knitting on large needles -guage/tension

I've never used large needles...the pattern I'm following now uses US#15 10mm needles. Any tips for tension? I'm finding it really difficult to knit and keep the guage right. I'm dying for some...
