I actually think there is an error and they should have placed an * because the count is off if I just purl 5 and then 3. It also has x4 after it. There are only 37 sts total and that would be 36 sts...

I'm knitting a dishcloth. The first 6 rows are k1, purl to the end of the row.
The next row is : k1, p1 for 5 sts, p3
What is p1 for 5 sts?????

I follow most of your suggestions...though there are no side seams to sew actually. the sides and back are all one flat piece.
Should I evenly space out the first sts I pick up to begin at edge...
