Brittyknitts and Miss_Molly! You both said it in slightly different ways and all of a sudden, it clicked! I was trying to 'finish' a 'set' of sts after the row 44, but there is no finishing a set...

okay, I just re-read the post about the 'work even' bit and I think I have that! If I end on row 49 in purl than the next 3 rows would also be purled, which would be WS.
