K there is a very very simple way of twisting purl stitches and it doesn't involve needle contortions either.
You know how you usually purl? Stick the needle through under the front leg, wrap the yarn OVER the needle and pull thru? Well the simplest and easiest way to twist a purl stitch is to stick the needle in as usual and then wrap the yarn UNDER the needle and pull thru. That twists the stitches. Look for the "Norwegian Purl" video that'll show you how to do it. And then on the "right side" don't unstwist the stitch. But truth be told, I would only worry about twisting the right side stitches anyway, but that's just me though. LOL
