Hiya silegose,
selvedge or selvege are edge stitches used sort of as a seam allowance when you are sewing your parts together. It also acts as a buffer for the pattern stitches and shaping. (most is usually done just inside the selvedge stitches ). It also helps to keep your edges nice n smooth.
