I agree 100% with ArtLady. If the extra width really bothers you, it's not hard to take in the sides a bit just as you would a woven top. Here's a terrific tutorial which I used to save a sweater that was knit gauge but looked to big.

A sewing machine is recommended but it you don't have one you can do the sewing by hand.
