Thank you for all the input.
I did let the owner of the LYS know that i was more than wiling to work with the customer, so she gave the customer my contact info, although I have yet to hear from her.
I also picked up all the remaining skeins from the LYS and am currently knitting up swatches to try to replicate the problem. So far on a standard warm water wash there has been virtually no fading. I have another swatch in the machine now and another OTN. If I can't replicate the problem, I may be left to suspect the detergent she used.
