(k1, yo, k1) into next st, *sl 1, (k1, yo, k1) into next st; rep from * to last st, k1. Ok, so what does (k1, yo, k1) mean? why is it in parentheses? and I've never seen "into next st" before in instructions.
(k1, yo, k1) is in parentheses because it indicates everything inside is done in ONE STITCH. Insert ndl, K1 but leave on ndl. Bring yarn fwd between ndls (the YO) and K1 again. Now drop your st off the left ndl. All worked in one (or 'next') st.

Keeping to the knitting basics
