I've started my first project using a circular needles. I'm no row 6 where the pattern reads

(RS): K2 (edge sts), P1, *K1, [K2, K2tog, yo] 3 times; P1, K6, P1, [yo, SSk, K2] 3 times; K1 **, P1, K6, P1;; rep from * accross, edging last rep at **, P1, K2 (edge sts).

What does the (edge sts) mean in this regard.

Second in the description above. SSK means SI next 2 sts knitwise, then put back on left needle, Knit 2 tog through back lp.

What does it mean to "put back on left needle"?
