I hope I can explain this. At the end of a row: Slip your needle into the last stitch as to knit, actually knit a stitch but don't put on the righthand needle but slip onto the same needle you just knitted on (the left needle). Continue until you have all the stitches you need then switch the needle to the right hand and purl as usual. No holes. If you have to increase you can just do an increase, you didn't say how many stitches you had to add so that many not work if it is very many. I haven't done that in awhile will have to check my notes. I hope this helped
