What I would suggest is that you frog down to about a row before you want to restart. Then, when you pull out the final round, slip your needle in the stitches as they pop out. You can probably use your tail to help determine where the round actually begins, but with a solid color, if you're off by a stitch or two it won't really be noticeable in the end.
