Best answer for depends. If it's a long car trip I'd probably sort through my bag a bit and not bring anything I definitely wouldn't work on, but I'd probably bring most of it since the bag isn't that large.

For a weekend trip probably just a project and the tools I'll most likely need.

When I'm flying I take a project and extra yarn for another if I finish and just the tools I need.

When asking questions ALWAYS post the name and a link for the pattern if you have it.
