You purl every row of the border? That would make garter stitch, but most people do that by knitting every row. If you knitted every row you'd get garter stitch for the center too. Maybe you mean you are doing stockinette in the center, knit a row, purl a row? On the edge I'm not sure what you might mean... but you could mean it is garter everywhere.

Border is always blue and center first stitch that touches the border could be red, white, or blue? A helpful thing would be a picture. Could you direct me to one, or could you give me the full name of the pattern and who it is by and maybe I can find a picture of it on the internet to look at?

I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep last night and went to bed after 6 AM and am just getting going again.
