Hi! I just started knitting 5 days ago. So far I made a scarf and a mini wristlet purse with zipper.
I am teaching myself to knit to eventually be able to make this:

Instead of the Blue Sky Alpaca dyed cottons, I purchased the Sugar N' Cream solid cottons instead. The Blue Sky Alpaca dyed cotton says it can take 7-9 needle sizes. I figured this would be alright since the suggested knitting needle for the Sugar N' Cream yarns is a US 7.
However the pattern calls for a US-9 circular needle (40").
Do I need to change the yarn I purchased or can I just do the pattern using a US-7 circular needle?
Thanks!
