Hi all! I'm knitting my first sweater, the Miette: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/miette

I'm adding the button band now. The pattern calls for me to pick up and knit into stitches at the edge of the sweater. I understand what I have to do, but does anyone have any tips on how to make sure that I pick up the stitches evenly along the row? And what part of the stitch should I pick up?
