Ah, once you do it it'll be easy peasy. I picked up the stitches and left the waste yarn in place while I started knitting again, making it more difficult. You can try it on a smaller swatch or something first. I think the thumb of a mitten was less intimidating because it was only a dozen or stitches involved.
