I'm not sure, it would be reversed from how you have it, though it may work out that way. Just k6 at the start, then p2, k6, p2, (k2, p2, k6, p2)*6 and end with k8. After the first 6 sts, you need to work the rest of them as they appear - knit the ones that look like knits on this row, and purl the ones that look like purls. That way you'll stick to the rib pattern.
