According to the Ravelry yarn database, that's a Bulky weight, you might call it chunky over there. Substitute another yarn that has a similar gauge on its label - 14 sts/4" with a 6 to 8mm needle. Use the label gauge to substitute, it classifies yarn into a weight range and patterns might use a different needle for design purposes.
