I like to make cat and dog toys and the stuffing can be a problem. I use small half finished knitting or crochet projects which I've abandoned as stuffing for inside balls. You can also stuff these with socks that have lost their mates in the laundry. One cat toy pattern has you inserting small noise making items like jingle bells into a prescription pill bottle with a child proof cap. A tube is knit, the bottle put inside, and the ends are sewn shut.
