Hi and welcome to KH!
I agree with MerigoldinWa, this is not an exact process and a stitch more or less is not going to matter. Try picking up a stitch every other row and see how that looks. This video may help if you needl to see the technique.
It's a simple but very pretty pattern. Post a picture if you'd like. We'd love to see the finished blanket.
