You probably forgot a stitch somewhere and did k2 p1 or something. So look back at the start of the round and make sure you have 2ks, then 2ps, and so on. Or did you k1, then start the k2, p2? You may have CO 1 stitch too many too. To join, that's all you do -work the first round of the pattern.
