I did a blanket for my granddaughter. It was a thermal stitch. Try it on some scrap yarn and see what you think. This looks like the pocket weave in long underwear. This is done in multiples of 4. The first row is knit all across. The second row purl across. Rows 3 and 4, k2,p2 across. Repeat these four rows for the pattern.
I noticed that the author of the pattern mentions a certain type of Red Heart yarn she used for the blanket that has been discontinued. She used Caron Simply Soft. This says that it's a worsted weight, but my experience has been that it's more of a sport weight. The diameter, to me, seems a lot smaller than worsted. My blanket was done with Bernat Baby Sport which I believe is a #3. They recommend a 3-6 range needle, but I have pushed it to a 7 or 8 with no problem. The thermal stitch blanket turned out heavy, weight wise. But this became my granddaughter's favorite.
Welsh corgis are cool.
