Knitting and crochet are almost like meditation. You get in "the zone" and tune everything out around you. It's very relaxing and brings out your creativity. For me, I quit smoking. I've been smoke free for a year now this past Valentine's Day. I wondered, what will I do on my work breaks now that I'm not going outside to burn one? I brought a knitting or crochet project to do instead. It helped me get my holiday knitting done easily and transitioned me into more healthy habits. I can't believe the extra money I have now for yarn. I have saved at least $200 a month on the cost of cigarettes. That's a savings of $2400 a year. Now that I think of it, I probably shouldn't feel so guilty going crazy at the yarn store.
