Assuming the first row is a right side row (RS), work across 52sts, and turn as you would at the end of a row. Leave the remaining sts on a holder or spare needle or some scrap yarn. On the WS row, k2 and work in pattern to the end of the row. On RS row, work in pattern without increases or decreases. Repeat the last 2 rows (WS and RS) until the piece measure 11" from the beginning, ending after a WS row has been completed.
I may not have RS and WS assigned correctly without knowing what this pattern is but I think if you just take the directions row by row, checking each off as you go, you'll be fine.
