Row one looks ok but that's a good idea to check that row. The repeats in row one and two are 16sts but the problem is in the total for row 4 (the row you initially quoted). The k2tog at each end requires 2sts each and with 16 x 2 sts in the repeats and 4 more for the k2tog that's 36sts.
I'm sorry, I missed it the first time around. I wonder if one end of row 4 should be k1 with just the repeat ending the other end instead of k2tog? I can give it a try tonight at home.
