You can switch back and forth between continental and english, any time you want. They produce the exact same stitch. Although it is quite possible that you'll knit at a different gauge with one method than the other, so you might want to stick to one, just for that reason.

It sounds like you've got the right idea with that pattern. (Again, yes, it will be the same as doing it in English.)
