Thanks for all the suggestions! The link to amazon toy books got me looking around and I found a picture of a mighty similar pig on a Debbie Bliss pattern book

ONe of the reviewers said everything is knitted flat. So I guess I can toy with scraps of fabric until I get the shape that works then knit that.
