See if you can check out Barbara Walker's Knitting from the Top from your local library. I think the basic pants were something like leggings, but she gives numerous variations including shorts and bikini bottoms. I don't remember whether any of them would be suitable for men; I really didn't look at that section of the book very much. I wish I could tell you more, but I had to return the copy I had to the library the other day because I had renewed it the maximum number of times.
