I'm a beginner. My aunt gave me a book "Knitting for Dummies." (yup, there's a message there...) Now that I have had enough practice on knitting and purling and moss stitch, I want to try a new one (p. 47) called Seed Stitch Diamonds. It is described ":a bit like diamond brocade in reverse....Seed stitches are used to make solid diamonds instead of simply outlining them. "
Is there an error in the following pattern? (I know: "Trust the Pattern" but ....)
It says to cast on a multiple of 10 stitches, plus 1. I have 31 stitches on needles, making a sampler scarf. I have a selvage edge running up each side: 5 stitches each side in garter. So I want the center section (remaining 21 stitches) to have this pattern.
Here's Row 1, for example:
(RS) P1, *k1, p3, k1, p3, k1, p1; rep from *
this doesn't seem to add up to 21... ????
Am I interpreting the pattern right, per the above? it's only 20?
P1, k1, p3, k1, p3, k1, p1: k1, p3, k1, p3, k1, p1; P1, k1, p3, k1, p3, k1, p1
Another example, Row 2:
P1, *k1, p3, k1, p3, k1, p1; rep from * adds up to 20?
Row 9:
K2 *(p1, k1) 3 times, p1, k3; rep from *, end last repeat k2
adds up to 17?
I must be reading this stuff wrong! ?????
