I just got in touch with the volunteer coordinator at our local childrens hospital and asked what they needed and they were able to direct me to local groups that have "knitting days" and "sewing Saturdays" to make things for the hospital.

You can do blankets, chemo caps, layettes or still birth babies or babies that die before ever leaving the hosp, my mom knits little sweaters for teddy bears (she lives near a hosp that gives each child a teddy bear and lets them pick a sweater to put on it). Knitting for charity is such a wonderful way to justify my stash of yarn to my husband !!
