Go to the glossary on this site, I believe there is a video for slipping stitches.
Basically, you put your needle into the stitch as if you were going to purl it, but don't wrap the yarn, just pull the stitch onto the right needle.
The "knit 1-18 stitches" is telling you that you should knit the next 18 stitches, which I believe should be all of them.
